ALLY Adaptive Cataract Treatment System

Femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery and the LENSAR ALLY.

About this webinar

Dr. Robert Weinstock argues that cataract surgery is steadily moving toward a laser-assisted model, and he shows where the LENSAR ALLY fits in a refractive practice. Dr. William Wiley moderates.

In his hands the femtosecond laser handles the steps where a manual technique is most likely to go wrong. It creates the capsulotomy, softens the nucleus, and marks toric alignment and arcuate incisions, all in under a minute. Weinstock points out that the laser grew out of the technology used to cut LASIK flaps, and that the current ALLY is a redesign rather than an update, built smaller and faster around a dual-pulse laser. He is candid about its limits too, since it needs a clear cornea and lens to fire through. What has impressed him is how quickly LENSAR, with only this one product to worry about, keeps improving its guidance for incisions, toric alignment, and dense lenses.

What you'll learn

  • How a refractive mindset and spectacle independence shape cataract surgery today
  • The steps the femtosecond laser automates: capsulotomy, nucleus softening, and astigmatism management
  • How the ALLY was rebuilt as a faster, dual-pulse laser platform
  • Why the laser requires clear ocular media, and how it limits collateral damage
  • Getting the most from the tools available during fellowship, whether manual or laser-assisted
